Comprehensive Psychiatry #2

“I am so fortunate that I found Ascend Health! Dr. Molina has helped me so much. He talks with me in ways I understand and that means a lot to me. My therapist is also able to help me with understanding how to better help myself! A great team is here to help!“ -Ruthann M

Our psychiatrist, board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN), leads clinical decisions, as we often encounter treatment resistant patients. “Treatment resistant” simply means you may be on medication, but symptoms such as depression persist. We offer a full range of mental health care: from psychiatric evaluations to medication management, TMS or ketamine, and counseling for children, couples, and adults.

We harness the power of neuroplasticity to address the root cause of your imbalance.

Because our brains are in a constant state of transformation, reorganizing synaptic connections and growing, full healing of emotional trauma is absolutely possible. Our patients work with therapists to acquire different perspectives and new thought patterns to process their trauma and subsequent life events in a healthy manner.

“Our wounds are often the openings into the best and most beautiful part of us.”

– David Richo

Full Range of Services

Psychiatric Evaluations

We perform a full diagnostic evaluation with all new patients. During this appointment, our psychiatrist or psychiatric nurse practitioners will review the patient’s symptoms, medication list, and previous psychiatric records (if any exist). After the provider forms a diagnosis and a broad overview of the patient’s situation, he or she will work with the patient to establish a comprehensive treatment plan. This appointment usually lasts about 40 to 60 minutes and is the foundation for the individualized treatment plan. Often, we’ll authorize ketamine infusions, but the patient will continue to receive their medications from the referring provider.

Medication Management

Medication management appointments are a chance for providers and patients to discuss progress so that the provider can adjust or change doses as needed and refill prescriptions. These sessions are conducted by our psychiatric nurse practitioners, Mark Garretson and Julie Stone, or our psychiatrist, Dr. Molina. They are necessary to qualify from an insurance standpoint for TMS or SPRAVATO™.

Therapy

Our five therapists offer hour-long therapy sessions for patients who wish to make changes in their behavior, heal from broken relationships or the hardship of chronic disease, and process trauma. We use research-based regimens such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR).

In addition to psychotherapy, we offer hour-long counseling sessions focusing on the following areas:

  • Trauma
  • Substance Abuse / Addiction
  • Family Therapy
  • Marriage Counseling

Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy

Ketamine-assisted psychotherapy utilizes the mind-expanding power of ketamine to achieve rapid progress in talk therapy. Because ketamine helps break down emotional barriers, it allows therapists and patients to accomplish a lot of work in a small amount of time.

Through regular meetings during ketamine therapy, the patient is able to process the insights they gain during the infusion with the therapist, addressing the root cause of emotional trauma.
